Travelling Ava – adventurer and urban explorer… and a doll

I would like to introduce Travelling Ava. She is a free spirit, an adventurer, and an urban explorer. She is also a doll.

post-3-5

After a lot of trial and error, I have finally finished Travelling Ava, and she is even better than I imagined.

Designing the Travelling Ava

The original inspiration for the doll came from my handmade jewellery business, Ava Kitsch. I thought it would be fun to create a brand mascot. When I started designing Travelling Ava I spent a lot of time thinking about the personality of the brand.

When I first started my business a lot of people thought Ava Kitsch could have been a 1920s woman. This was my starting point. I wanted to design a doll that fitted with the vintage steampunk look that I have created for Ava Kitsch. I started to research fashion from the 1920s and 1930s. I also started to think about her personality. Ava is a free spirit, but she is also head strong, she loves to try new things and loves an adventure. I am always inspired by strong women. Throughout history there are so many amazing, beautiful, strong pioneering women. We need to celebrate women more and be kinder to ourselves and each other because we are amazing. Anyway back to doll design. So when designing her hairstyle and clothing I was inspired by Amelia Earhart. What is more adventurous than being the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. A real adventurer.

From Brand Mascot to Travelling Doll

What started as a brand mascot has taken on a life of it’s own. I spent a lot of time designing her explorer outfit. I knew she was going need a jacket for the cold weather, she was also going to need hat and a bag. Her shoes were especially problematic, her feet are a bit on the small side so it is difficult to keep her shoes on.

Now that Ava has her explorer outfit she needs to go on an adventure. I thought it would be cool having a doll hanging around the workshop to use in my social media posts but she is definitely much more than mascot she is an adventurer.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post, I would love to hear from you, please leave a comment.. Have an awesome day. x

    1. Thank you. She is currently in Norway on a cruise for the next 2 weeks without me. I can’t wait to see what adventures she is having.
