Albie is a gentleman frog, he enjoys wearing a top hat, journaling and letter writing. He grew up in a small place called Chapel Oak on the Isle of Neverwas. He now spends his days travelling to destinations in our World. He is busy writing a book about his adventures. His favourite places to visit are damp woodlands, lakes and rivers.

You will need the following:

  • A 3 mm hook
  • Toy stuffing
  • Stitch marker
  • Sewing needle
  • Scissors
  • 10 mm safety eyes (optional)
  • Drops Cotton Light (50% Cotton, 50% Polyester, 50g/105m), Green – 11 and Black – 20
  • Contrasting colour for the mouth.

Abbreviations

  • ch- chain
  • dc – Double Crochet
  • dc2tog – Double crochet two stitches  together
  • ss – slip stitch#

Level: Easy

Tension: Tension is not critical for this project but may affect the required yarn quantities.

Measurements: Albie the Top Hat Frog measures approximately 17 cm tall.

This pattern is worked using the amigurumi method. Work stitches continuously in a spiral without closing off each round with a slip stitch. You may find it easier to mark the first stitch of the round, moving the marker up as you work.

Decreasing rounds: You may prefer to use an invisible decrease, this technique will give your finished creation a neater appearance.

  • To do this insert your hook into the front loop of the first stitch, then insert your hook into the front loop of the second stitch.
  • Yarn over hook and pull through the first 2 loops on your hook.
  • Yarn over hook and pull through the remaining 2 loops on your hook to complete the stitch.

How to Assemble Albie the Frog

  • Pictures are provided as a guide to help you.
  • The body is worked from toe to head, rounds are counted from top to bottom when placing eyes and arms.
  • Attach the safety eyes and stuff the eyes before stitching them to the body.
  • Stitch eyes to the body, leaving enough room to sew the hat onto the top of the head.
  • Do not stuff the arms, fold them so they are flat and stitch between rounds 23/24 of the body.
  • Stuff the hat and stitch the brim to the base of the hat. Stitch the hat to the top of Albie’s head.
  • Use contrasting yarn to stitch a small mouth to finish your frog.
