Fingerless Mittens – Free Crochet Pattern

I wanted to design a pair of simple and easy to crochet fingerless mittens. Try different yarns and hook sizes to see what you can create. This is a free crochet pattern written using UK crochet terminology.

Below you will find a list of equipment you will need, the pattern and instructions for assembling your fingerless mittens.

Equipment

Recommended Yarn – Stylecraft Special DK 100g ball.
Hook – 4 mm
Sewing Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations

ch – Chain Stitch
bl – Insert hook under back loop
only
dc- Double Crochet
dc2tog – Double crochet two
stitches together
htr – Half Treble

Pattern (make 2)

Foundation Row: Chain 35
Row 1(RS): htr in second chain stitch from hook, htr in each stitch to the
end, turn (34)
Row 2: ch 1, dc in the bl of each stitch to the end, turn (34)
Row 3: ch 2, htr in each stitch to the end, turn (34)
Row 4: ch 1, dc in the bl of each stitch to the end, turn (34)
Row 5 – 29: ch 1, dc in each stitch to the end, turn (34)
Row 30: ch 1, dc in the next 13 stitches, ch 10 skip 8 dc, dc in the next 13
stitches, turn (36)
Row 31: ch 1, dc in each stitch to the end, turn (36)
Row 32: ch 1, dc in the next 12 stitches, dc2tog, dc in the next 8 stitches,
dc2tog, dc in the next 12 stitches, turn (34)
Row 33 – 35: ch 1, dc in each stitch to the end, turn (34)
Row 36: ch 1, dc in the bl of each stitch to the end, turn (34)
Row 37: ch 2, htr in each stitch to the end, turn (34)
Fasten off and leave a long tail for stitching.

Measurements: Before stitching
Length: 18 cm – Width: 21 cm

Adjustments:
These fingerless mittens could be made smaller or larger by reducing or increasing the number of stitches in the foundation chain in multiples of 2.

Reduce Foundation Chain e.g. New FC 33
Row 32 adjustment ch 1, dc in the next 11 stitches, dc2tog, dc in the next 8 stitches, dc2tog, dc in the next 11 stitches, turn

Increase Foundation Chain e.g. New FC 37
Row 32 adjustment ch 1, dc in the next 13 stitches, dc2tog, dc in the next 8 stitches, dc2tog, dc in the next 13 stitches, turn

To Assemble

Fold in half with the right sides facing each other, using a tapestry needle sew along the seam.
